The Rural Distribution Section within the Department of Health has policy responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Modified Monash Model (MMM) remoteness classification. The MMM has become the Department’s preferred remoteness classification and is increasingly used in eligibility criteria for a range of policies and programs. With the update to the Census, an updated geographic boundaries and maps were required.

Using her geospatial and mapping expertise, Data Knowhow's Lisa Cornish was engaged to create these new map boundaries using ESRI mapping software. In developing a quotation, Lisa provided samples of outcomes to confirm she was meeting the needs of the client. She engaged with the client to produce a range of test outputs to confirm which was considered most suitable. Lisa and the client worked together to identify geographic areas that required special rules in the creation of the boundaries.

The final approved boundaries have been published for use on the DoctorConnect website.
